A breakdown of the differences between the IKEA and IKD design experience

At IKD, our design process is designed (pun intended!) for one thing: To take the worry out of designing your IKEA kitchen.

That’s why our online kitchen design services are streamlined to make the time spent creating your IKEA kitchen as intuitive and simple as possible.

And when it’s completed, you’ll definitely look at your IKEA kitchen differently!

Here’s how we’ll take your kitchen design ideas, design your IKEA kitchen and get everything needed for your final purchase.

First,we ask you to complete our online design questionnaire. It guides you to think clearly about what’s really important about your kitchen, such as appliance info or storage needs. There’s plenty of space for any clarification in the Notes To Your Designer sections. As certified kitchen designers, we’ll understand what’s unique about your kitchen.

Then send along plans, or sketch your basic kitchen measurements, and send them to us. If it helps, we’ll take measurements together with you on Facetime. Don’t worry, we know which measurements are critical, and if you need help – we’ll call.

Next, we encourage you to take a few photos of your current kitchen or shoot a video and talk to us about the space and any kitchen design ideas you have. It’ll help us see your entire kitchen and details too tricky to explain.

We’d also like to see a few examples of kitchens that inspire you, so send links from HOUZZ.com, Pinterest or other design Web sites so our designer can get a sense of the vision for your kitchen.

Our designers will review your design information, share ideas and create your initial design draft – sending it to you within three days. It’s a starting point for us to continue revising your design until we’ve completed an IKEA kitchen design that’s right for you and that adheres to kitchen industry design standards.

We’ll include a method for you to note changes and will continue revising the original design until it’s just what you want.

Sharpened PencilAfter all, our goal is to provide personalized, unique kitchens for IKEA customers!

Once we know you’re satisfied with the design, you’ll receive a design package on your personal IKEA Home Planner account complete with color renderings, floor plans, elevations, IKEA’s material list and pricing.
Share this design package with custom door companies like SemiHandmade, or installers, for quotes.

We’ll also send separately a listing of extra items that are needed for all IKEA installations.
You can see our full design package by clicking the IKD Sample Design.

You’re now ready for your final purchases at IKEA, and can provide complete information for your installer.
(Don’t forget our free service for IKD customers, Install Connect, which provides exclusive access to our database of verified cabinet installers near you.)

Also, the same care and precision our designers provide for your kitchen design is offered for your bathrooms, laundry areas, mudrooms and closets!

Our design process reduces the stress that IKEA customers sometimes feel from IKEA’s design services when they are dealing with the IKEA Kitchen Planner not working half the time, or while hoping they’ve selected all the necessary products for their design without much guidance.

IKEA’s in-store kitchen planners are great at guiding you through all-things IKEA, but as certified kitchen designers we consider your entire kitchens and all its hidden details.

As you can see, our design process will help you see your kitchen differently. And more importantly, it’ll be a kitchen you’ll enjoy for a long, long time.

How original is that?
