Real-world applications of IKEA master bath renovations
If there’s one thing we like to stress to our clients when they begin their IKEA design, it’s this: IKEA SEKTION cabinetry is not only for the kitchen! In fact, there are many ways to use the IKEA SEKTION cabinetry system and IKEA cabinetry to “hack” other rooms in the home.
This is especially true with bathroom renovations.
As experienced designers, we understand the importance of a bathroom that’s stylish, relaxing and organized.
After all, the bathroom is where you charge your batteries before the day begins, or unwind after a long week.
It’s where you go to escape the world!
For this reason alone, the space needs to reflect your personal needs.
As such we recommend that you visit HOUZZ or Pinterest to see examples of bathroom designs that might make it onto your IKEA bathroom design wish list.
And if you need inspiration, IKD’s design team is here for you.
Perhaps the best option for you is a small IKEA bathroom packed with clever storage; or a minimalist eco-friendly bathroom; or a master bathroom that’s cozy and spacious.
Whatever the style, know that you can take IKEA SEKTION cabinetry and design a unique bathroom renovation.
Let’s look at some IKEA bathroom design options!

Why Design with IKD?
Small Guest Bathroom Using IKEA SEKTION cabinetry
When IKD customer Josh reached out to us, his request was simple: Design a small guest bathroom that provided lots of storage.
However, since the space was in a small New York City apartment, the execution was not so straightforward.
In fact, space was so limited there was only single wall to use in the bathroom!
“I really wanted a clean bathroom, that was neutral and not clinical or sterile looking, as many bathrooms tend to be,” Josh says.
To achieve the look, the design team combined IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework with IKEA’s GODMORGON sink cabinet with two drawers in white stained Oak Effect. We then combined this with an IKEA TORNVIKEN sink and IKEA TOLKEN countertop.
This added a sense of warmth and reduced any “clinical” feel.
We then designed an open storage concept that is both practical and stylish. We used IKEA’s TUTEMO open cabinets in Ash and SEKTION wall cabinets with IKEA HAGGEBY doors.
To complement the look is internal shallow drawers featured inside the wall cabinets and a 12″W base pull-out to store cleaning supplies or spare paper, etc.
“IKD did a great job especially since it was such a small space in an apartment!” he concludes.
Modern IKEA Bathroom
Balancing the stylistic needs of multiple people was the trick with this bathroom designed for IKD customers Lucy and Brian from Las Vegas, NV.
Lucy explains: “I love the modern look for a bathroom and wanted to continue that look from other rooms in our home. My husband wanted more natural materials, so it was a bit of a compromise.”
Indeed, so we combined IKEA SEKTION wall cabinets with Semihandmade TAHOE doors, paired with floating cabinets below the sink.
Those drawers feature IKEA’s VOXTORP Matte White doors, making it a stylish storage area for linens and towels too (as its located next to the large walk-in shower).
To create a natural feel, we used a concrete look on the back wall and flooring, and complemented that with IKEA’s EKBACKEN laminate countertops in Light Gray Concrete Effect.
“IKD created a space that feels customized for both of us, and we couldn’t be happier,” Lucy concludes.
Cozy Master Bath
Sometimes, there’s never too much of a good thing.
For this cozy master bath for IKD customers Rich and Darlene from Bridgeport, CT, that thing was space.
Rich explains: “This is a very spacious master bath, so we wanted to incorporate tall cabinets for linen storage and lots of organization with drawers and pull outs. We also loved the pre-existing (non-IKEA) sink and countertop so we wanted to keep those.”
With those parameters in place, we used SEKTION with IKEA’s BODBYN Gray doors, which creates a traditional feel. We also added IKEA’s TORNVIKEN open cabinets to store towels.
“We had so many big ideas, and a lot of space to play with, and IKD turned a potentially overwhelming experience into a stress-free, enjoyable one!” Rich concludes.
As you can see, IKD’s design services can help you have a functional and beautiful bathroom too, regardless of the style or scope of the project.
All it takes is a little inspiration mixed with a little perspiration.
