Achievable solutions for maximizing wine storage in your IKEA kitchen

Like a fine wine, a good kitchen design gets better with age. And for customers who entertain often or are collectors of wine, proper wine storage is a must. We at IKD know this well.

In fact, our design team has designed many wine storage options within IKEA kitchens over the years as well as separate areas dedicated to wine storage.

There are all kinds of built-in, large-scale, and temperature-controlled wine storage options and the right storage area can make a huge difference for the customer who buys a nice bottle solely for special occasions or for the connoisseur who needs dedicated space for their collection. These design options can incorporate IKEA SEKTION framework and IKEA cabinetry – or even custom options – to maximize your function and style needs.

Even more importantly, the IKD design team takes into account the space considerations of your kitchen too. After all, every kitchen regardless of its size needs its work triangle to flow as efficiently as possible in order to be a great gathering place for friends and family.

So whether you have a large kitchen with room to spare, a smaller kitchen where counter space is limited or need to incorporate a clever, separate wine storage or beverage center option, we can do that too.

And for those worried they have champagne tastes and a beer budget, our design process can help you with that too. During our design process, IKD provides a full IKEA material list with pricing, including extra items that are needed for all IKEA installations, which ultimately will save you time, money and stress.

Let’s take a look at some wine storage design concepts we’ve created so that you can enjoy your IKEA kitchen, and your wine, in style.

Why Design with IKD?

Customize your look

For custom wine storage designs, the options IKD can create are limitless. How about a design where the wine is accessible, yet hidden in plain sight?

So for instance, we’ve conceived an L-shaped layout where the wine storage is neatly tucked under IKEA cabinetry in the corner and has a clever flip-up door that can be lifted for easy access. Or it can be closed to conceal the wine while matching the aesthetic of the cabinetry of the kitchen.

And with the wine stored near the work triangle, you could use it for additional storage of olive or flavored oils as well.

Island getaway

If you entertain often and have a large kitchen where company gathers, what’s better than having the storage built into your island?

Not only does this reduce trips to the cellar or other rooms to (rudely!) retrieve your wine bottles while entertaining, but it also adds a unique aesthetic element that will surely keep the conversation – and wine – flowing. One dynamic option is to use IKEA TORNVIKEN cabinetry to establish storage in your island. The design can hold up to 20 bottles, depending on space. And even if you are not entertaining and just cooking for your family it will ensure that your perfect wine selection is always within arm’s reach.

Center of attention

Incorporating a wine cooler/beverage center into your design opens up function and style options as well.

A beverage center that is typically used under the counter can be repurposed and built into the cabinetry to prevent crouching for your next drink. So, by putting the beverages at eye level our designers have made retrieving your next glass of wine or spirits easier on your knees and back!

Standard wine cooler measurements are 24” wide and 34-1/2” high, so we at IKD recommend adding a 30” tall oven cabinet for both the cooler and more storage.

How’s that for thinking outside the (wine) box?

All in a row

Sometimes, space is really at a premium in the kitchen for wine storage too. IKD has you covered for that as well.

Consider using IKEA TORNVIKEN open cabinetry in a vertical storage option.

This is a tidy way to store your wine while maximizing every bit of space in your IKEA kitchen. Run the IKEA TORNVIKEN open cabinetry along the space between the wall and your refrigerator and you can hold dozens of bottles. This is a practical solution because most customers want their refrigerators off center rather than square center against a wall. And at a width of 9” and a height of 40”, the IKEA TORNVIKEN open cabinetry is a sleek option that we can fit seamlessly into any design.

IKEA Wine Storage
Even if you’re more a collector than a drinker, it’s an ideal way to turn your wine collection into an artistic element of your kitchen. And the depth of the cabinet mitigates heat exposure from the refrigerator motor.

This also frees up much-needed counter space, so that you can prep food more easily.

Remember: What you might view as unusable space might just be the ideal area to showcase your wine collection.

So, let IKD design your space for wine storage and you will be toasting your IKEA kitchen in no time!
