Reviewing the advantages of IKEA cabinetry for your remodel project

You have decided to use IKEA for your kitchen remodel, great!

Now what?

We understand it can seem overwhelming.

After all there are many things to consider when you begin your IKEA kitchen. Things like doing proper research, product selection, kitchen budgeting, space planning for your family’s needs and determining how quickly the project will be done (and the best time to start the project, in general).

All of these factors can make a huge difference in the success of your kitchen renovation.

But that’s why we’re here: To give you a clearer idea what steps to take first.

At IKD, our certified kitchen designers are experts in IKEA SEKTION cabinetry as well as IKEA’s Home Planner software.

We also know the “ins and outs” of IKEA sales events.  Which can help quickly educate the novice IKEA customer with our streamlined design services.

Even the most adept DIYers have benefited from our experience and knowledge with all things IKEA.

IKD can help you throughout your IKEA kitchen remodel and save you time, money and stress.

Let’s see where to start!

Why Design with IKD?

Do Your Research

The first thing we recommend is to do your research.

Already done some research? That’s probably why you’ve decided to go with IKEA cabinets and IKD for your design.

And if you’ve already taken that step – or even if you haven’t – you should understand your cabinetry choices.

Specifically, the advantages of IKEA cabinetry: Easy-to-clean and cost effective.

While there are benefits of using third-party custom cabinetry manufacturers, ready-to-assemble cabinetry like those from IKEA provide many advantages in cost, durability and versatility.

IKEA cabinets also provide great functionality.

Inserts

There are many storage and organization solutions available to design an efficient IKEA kitchen.

You can customize the interior based on your needs and how the space is going to be utilized.

Also interior fittings can be mixed, changed and adjusted.

Maximera drawer in drawer

IKEA cabinetry can save you close to 500% on your bill compared to custom cabinetry without sacrificing durability and quality.

We also recommend that you visit sites like HOUZZ for inspiration pictures and to zero in on a design style you prefer.

This will make it easier to select countertop or backsplash materials, fixtures, providers, and even take advantage of the IKEA sales events when the discounts match up with the style you want.

Know Your Budget

Once you’ve established some research you should begin to have a clearer idea on all the costs related to your IKEA kitchen remodel

This includes cabinetry, finishes, and appliances, for instance.

So at the budget stage you should be able to determine your overall budget and how you want to spend it.

(Remember: Research and budget are intertwined and will change as you become more educated and able to determine what you can afford.)

One way to save on your budget is with IKEA appliances.

Black Appliances

A majority of IKEA appliances are affordable models from Maytag, Amana and Whirlpool and include ranges, dishwashers, and refrigerators, as well as a cooktops and an over-the-range microwaves.

The IKEA NUTID S25 stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator and the IKEA OBEROENDE ceiling mounted extractor hood are durable, efficient choices.

Other options are the IKEA LAGAN range with ceramic cooktop and the IKEA LAGAN built-in dishwasher, so you can easily get a built-in look for a fraction of the cost of a top-of-the-line appliance.

We also advise to reconsider relocating supply lines for water, electric or gas which would increase your budget.

Also, compare countertop materials and providers, including fixtures and finishes in your research.

And don’t forget additional costs to consider like shipping, tax, and installation.

That’s why we offer the IKD Install Connect service to find a local IKEA installer for you, if needed.

Proper Space Planning

The last thing is to fully plan your room layout.

We suggest that you evaluate how the space will be used: Will this be an entertainment space or an eat-in kitchen?

It’s important to think about your priorities and how you’ll use the space.

One of the most important things to do then is consider the kitchen work triangle.

A great kitchen puts the stovetop, sink, and refrigerator close together and connected to each other by an invisible triangle.

Functional kitchen design

Typically the sink and the stovetop are across from each other, with the refrigerator off to the side to form the triangle in your IKEA kitchen.

The goal is to cut down on extra movement and prevent you and anyone else in the kitchen from running into each other while cooking or entertaining.

These are the considerations that our design team recognize are key to making your IKEA kitchen function at peak performance.

But it all starts with your decision to use IKEA for your kitchen remodel.

So bring us your kitchen design idea and we’ll help you make it a reality!
