It’s official – for the first time in 70 years, IKEA is not releasing a print or digital version of its famed catalogue – the annual photo-filled design inspo fest that sits on millions of coffee tables and in reading baskets around the world.
Although it was officially announced this summer, if you aren’t an avid follower of design news you may have missed the memo. And chances are you’re missing thumbing through its pages with Post-Its and writing notes like an analogue Pinterest board for your future design projects and renovations.
At IKD, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite resources for IKEA design inspiration, along with some of our past blog posts that we think you may find useful if you are embarking on a design project with IKEA cabinetry. Read on…

Why Design with IKD?
IKEA Hackers is probably the most comprehensive (albeit obvious) site to check out for ideas and inspiration on how to design, customize and repurpose IKEA pieces to make them your own.
We’ve found some incredible ideas from their crowd-sourced projects, and are always amazed at the level of creativity – from a Murphy bed hiding in a Pax closet system to a kitchen island that can hide an 8-foot foldable table, IKEA Hackers has it all.
While it’s not specifically known for featuring soup to nuts remodeling projects, IKEA Hackers is a resource for design tips and “aha moments” of what you can do with IKEA products, from small accessories to larger pieces of furniture and cabinetry.
Prepare to log some serious hours checking out ideas or just scroll through the editors’ round up of the best projects of 2021.
2. The Nordroom

The Nordroom is an incredible online resource for perusing European (specializing in Scandinavian) interiors and design.
Based in the Netherlands, this site is beautifully organized by room, trends, house tours and trends. While many of the designs featured are aspirational, the Nordroom editors are excellent at giving advice on how to achieve a look for less or with materials that can easily be purchased at IKEA.
In fact, they have a great post about how to get design news from IKEA even without the catalogue. We love their list of 2022 Interior Design Trends which breaks out trends by room, as well as their round up of the best kitchen and bathroom designs of 2021.
The Nordroom is interior design eye candy at it’s finest, but with easy, actionable tips and trends that you can save to your Pinterest board and work into your own home renovations.
3. Semistories

This site is a no-brainer for us to include as it is the content arm of one of our favorite partners – Semihandmade.
From design and decor tutorials, to cabinetry 101 and jaw–dropping photography of real-life renovation stories, seeing what other people do with Semihandmade cabinet doors and drawer fronts is always a great place to start when you are looking for inspiration for your IKEA kitchen remodel.
The site is chock-full of remodeling projects that can be achieved on a reasonable budget – and IKD often does the design plans for Semihandmade customers.
When you are finished looking through the over-the-top luxury design for inspiration, and want to see “real life” projects in your price range, this is a great place to start.
4. The IKD Blog Library
With thousands of IKEA design packages completed for customers around the world, the IKD team has amassed quite a library of renderings and blog posts with practical information and project spotlights for just about every room in your home.
You can search by room or categories including hacks, budgeting or even things to avoid when you are preparing for your remodel.
We enjoy connecting with our clients when they have had a chance to experience and live in their space, and you can read stories about projects, challenges and the solutions we came up with to make an IKEA design work for a given space.
The Bottom Line
When we work together on your IKEA kitchen, bath, laundry – or any – remodeling project, the process includes the opportunity for you to provide us with inspirational images and details – all of which help us create a design that reflects what you’re dreaming about.
So even though there won’t be a physical or even digital catalogue for IKEA going forward, you can follow their social media feeds as well as check out the blog posts on their site regularly to see what’s new, designer collaborations and beautiful, new full-room shots styled with IKEA products…just like in the catalogue.
