While your IKEA kitchen is the place for you to gather with friends and family, an IKEA master bath is equally important. That’s the place for you to relax, rejuvenate and recharge your batteries. To get to that space (literally and figuratively) there are many considerations in the master bath, from space to style and storage needs to general accessibility – and only the right IKEA cabinetry in the hands of IKD designers will do.
So whether your bathroom or budget is large or small and you want a stylish vanity area, his-and-hers sinks, or simply “must have” a new IKEA linen cabinet to store your towels, linens and toiletries, there are design options. Keep in mind that while IKEA kitchens use the IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework system, IKEA’s GODMORGON furniture series is used for master bathrooms. In fact, there are three bathroom vanity series from IKEA: DYNAN, FULLEN, GODMORGON and HEMNES, with GODMORGON the most popular.
IKD designer Paulina explains: “GODMORGON cabinets are sink vanities. SEKTION is the kitchen system. They are completely different in dimensions and built-in sinks and sink countertops are only compatible with GODMORGON. ‘Stand alone’ sinks can be used with SEKTION but the countertop will have to be sourced separately.” She adds: “However, SEKTION can provide all of the functionalities of GODMORGON and is much more versatile.”
You can in fact produce an IKEA GODMORGON vanity hack by using the SEKTION line and modifying it to suit your needs.
So yes, IKEA SEKTION cabinetry can be used in the bathroom, like this IKD master bath design that features IKEA SEKTION cabinetry paired with BODBYN doors. So if you’re just starting your day, or just need to relax, we at IKD believe your bathroom (and all of your wardrobe areas) should provide you with options that fit your life and style. After all, how can you expect to look and function your best if your bathroom doesn’t?
Let’s see how IKEA cabinetry can make that happen!

Cleaning up well
The key to a successful IKEA bathroom is style and efficiency.
If you want a transitional look in a narrow master bath, for instance, consider combining the GODMORGON sink cabinet with an IKEA TÖRNVIKEN ceramic sink and IKEA TOLKEN bamboo countertops for a sense of warmth.
This can provide a lot of accessible storage of towels and toiletries close to the shower, making the space ergonomic as well.
Hang a mirror over the countertops and you have a very sharp and clean-looking vanity/shaving area with a floating vanity!
Perhaps you’re looking for a stark, minimalist look. Maybe the vanity/wardrobe area is adjacent from the master bath entirely. There are options there. A design theme with the GODMORGON sink cabinet and IKEA ODENSVIK ceramic sink might do the trick.
The ODENSVIK comes in single-bowl and double-bowl configurations, so select the ODENSVIK double-bowl and (voila!) you have a sleek his-and-hers vanity area. Not only that, but with GODMORGON it will provide separate his-and-hers storage options.
This also might be a good time to add GODMORGON cabinet legs for a furniture look. Or maybe you have a large master bath, and budget, and lean more traditional in your style choices. In that case, one option is separate GODMORGON sink cabinets and IKEA KATTEVIK sinks. Pair the dark GODMORGON cabinets with white IKEA TOLKEN laminate countertops and you have an elegant design option.
You could also match that with a GODMORGON mirror cabinet to store shaving supplies, cosmetics, creams and other small items. A GODMORGON storage unit will house towels and other toiletries.
Storage options
But, chances are space might be at a premium in your master bath. And that means maximizing storage.
That said, it’s important to take stock of what you have and what you want to include in your bathroom.
So if you’re planning a new IKEA linen closet, for instance, ask yourself: Which items do I need to store and which to put on shelves?
Also be aware of how much space you actually have. You may have more (or less) than you realize. A linen closet can be tucked into a narrow space as little as 18″ and up to 60″.
Likewise, a shelf height of about 10” is good for sheets. We recommend about 12” to 16” of shelf height for towels. Bulky comforters, wool blankets, and extra pillows may need 18” of shelf space. This is equally important for another reason, although one that our customers may not always realize, or want to think about. That’s the idea of aging in place.
So just as an IKEA kitchen needs to have an efficient work triangle, the master bath should be ergonomic and safe, with items easily accessible. This is good practice for any customers, but especially for older customers and ones who intend to age with their home.
Luckily, IKEA has tons of organizers to make things more accessible. GODMORGON internal compartments for drawers keep smaller items such as handkerchiefs and tissues individually tucked. And consider the IKEA KOMPLEMENT series of baskets to store your linens near the shower or bath. With a chrome-plated modern look, the IKEA KALKGRUND towel hanger will keep things stylish and organized too.
And as usual, we recommend starting your IKEA master bath with IKD as soon as possible to maximize your options and minimize your stress!
