How to create an IKEA laundry room without breaking the bank

Today more than ever we’re asked to design other rooms beyond the kitchen using IKEA cabinets. And IKEA customers are very specific that they want spaces that are unique; fit their family’s needs and most importantly, fit their budget.

Well, our design team is here to tell you that an IKEA laundry room meets all that criteria! The laundry room is also a unique space used for multiple purposes, which can accommodate many types of products and configurations. Using IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework with IKEA cabinets fits the bill for that nicely as well.

Therefore, we’ve decided to share three (maybe four!) recent IKEA laundry rooms that we’ve designed for under $3000 that show our customers the possibilities for cost-effective and stylish IKEA laundry rooms. (Note: We’ve been referenced by Martha Stewart Living as experts on how to reduce kitchen renovation costs as well).

For instance, there’s the minimalist IKEA laundry room featuring IKEA VOXTORP Dark Gray cabinets for IKD customers Monica and Stu from Modesto, CA; a warm, natural-styled laundry room for customers Lauren and Kevin from Green Bay, WI; and a petite, yet powerful IKEA laundry room for IKD customers Glenn and Patricia — a young, busy couple from Stony Brook, NY.

So, even if you’ve already researched laundry room designs on HOUZZ, for instance, IKEA customers will no doubt find inspiration here for their own laundry room project.

Let’s take a look!

Why Design with IKD?

Nice and Neat

Dark Grey Cabinets Laundry

For IKD customers Monica and Stu from Modesto, CA, the key to their IKEA laundry room was to keep the space nice and neat.

“We have two small children, so it was important to have our laundry room be very efficient and organized and also retain the minimalist sensibilities that we have throughout our home,” Monica says, adding that they had a budget of $3500.

To that end, the pair selected IKEA’s VOXTORP Dark Gray cabinets around the upper and lower perimeter of the laundry room, complemented by a White Front Load Washing Machine with Coldwash Technology from Home Depot as well as an LG 7.4 cu. ft. Smart White Electric Vented Dryer with Sensor Dry. The gray cabinets are complemented by white Silestone countertops, giving the space a sense of balance as well as ample areas to fold clothes and store detergents and linens.Natural lighting provides a spacious, airy feel as well.

“Our IKEA laundry room gives us the efficiency and style we were looking for, especially when our time is limited and things pile up quick. We couldn’t be happier with the results and how we stayed under budget,” Monica concludes.

Natural IKEA Laundry Room

IKEA Cabinets in Laundry Room

Meant to complement the traditional theme of their home in Green Bay, WI, the IKEA laundry room for IKD customers Lauren and Kevin was a natural fit.

“We chose IKEA VOXTORP cabinets in Walnut to give the space a warm, inviting feel. That was very important to us, as was the need for plenty of storage room,” Kevin says.

So with a budget of $3000, the couple selected IKEA VOXTORP tall cabinets along with open shelving on one side, and additional base cabinets on the other side with the farmhouse sink and IKEA GLYPEN faucet with a stainless steel effect.

The look is complemented by an ENERGY STAR Samsung 27 in. High-Efficiency White Front Load Washing Machine with Self-Clean+ as well as a Samsung 7.5 cu. ft. 240-Volt White Electric Dryer with Sensor Dryer from Home Depot.

For the couple, the results speak to the design wish list they had at the beginning of their project.

“We love how much storage is in our laundry room and the Walnut effect on the IKEA cabinets really mixes well with the look we were striving for,” Kevin concludes.

Tiny and Tough

Laundry Room on a Budget

Even a smaller IKEA laundry room can really pack a punch. This was the case for IKD customers Glenn and Patricia from Stony Brook, NY, who chose IKEA VOXTORP Matte White cabinets with IKEA KALLRÖR handles and plenty of countertop space to highlight a very efficient IKEA laundry room.

“We both have an eclectic style and liked the idea of mixing and matching materials and colors,” Glenn says.“The IKEA VOXTORP cabinets were a perfect selection for our small laundry space and it works well with the IKEA BURHULT shelving too.”

The cabinets are complemented by appliances from Home Depot, including an ENERGY STAR Samsung 27 in. High-Efficiency Black Stainless Steel Front Load Washing Machine with Self-Clean+ and a Samsung7.5 cu. ft. 120-Volt White Gas Dryer with Sensor Dry.

“Our favorite part is how the cabinets are built-in around the washer-dryer and just how much storage we have for such a small area!” he concludes.

Simple But Effective

For IKD customers Gary and Helen from Orlando, FL, their IKEA laundry room was meant to be economical.

“We had a strict budget of $5000 and didn’t want to go over it at all. We’re retired and just wanted a design that was simple but effective. The IKEA VOXTORP Matte White cabinets provided so much storage and look great with the white appliances and countertops,” Helen says.

Specifically, the VOXTORP wall cabinets are featured above the ENERGY STAR Samsung White Front Load Washing Machine with Self-Clean+ and Samsung White Gas Dryer with Sensor Dry providing accessible storage for towels and other seasonal items.

The look is completed by a stainless steel IKEA TÄMNAREN faucet with sensor as well as recessed can lighting.

“This laundry room project came out exactly how we hoped it would. It makes doing the laundry very pleasurable and easy — we actually enjoy doing it!” she concludes.

Remember, being budget-conscious does not mean you have to sacrifice style or compromise on having an efficient space. The IKEA laundry room is a prime example of that.We hope these recent projects inspire you to consider your IKEA laundry room too!
