IKEA Cabinets in Bathroom

Expert advice for making your IKEA bathroom work

You’ve decided to remodel your bathroom because you need the space to be as organized as possible. We hear you. Luckily, IKEA offers various bathroom cabinets and bath-room storage options that — in the hands of the right designer — will ensure that goal is achieved.

We are those designers, and we’d like to talk for a minute about some of those options for your IKEA bathroom design. Surely, customers interested in using IKEA cabinets in their bathrooms will benefit from this information.

For instance, proper bathroom organization starts with knowing the criteria for choosing the right IKEA bathroom system; whether it’s IKEA’s GODMORGON, HEMNES or LILLÅNGEN systems. Good bathroom design also requires knowledge of how to use IKEA’s SEKTION cabinetry framework to maximum effect in your master bath as well. (That’s right, SEKTION isn’t just for kitchens!)

Perhaps you’re interested in learning how to use pull-outs to organize your bathroom essentials; or you want mirrored cabinets that have integrated lighting; or you heard about IKEA’s MAXIMERA drawers and are considering buying them for your master bath.

The following information will give you a solid foundation with which to start your bathroom project.

And if you’ve been searching for examples of master baths on design Web sites like HOUZZ or Pinterest and are ready to take the next step in remodeling your master bath, IKD will help you design a stylish, functional and organized IKEA bathroom.

Let’s take a look!

Choosing the Right System for Your Bathroom

When selecting a full bathroom system (or series of products) — such as the cabinetry, vanity, lighting, etc. — there are some criteria you need to keep in mind.

The first, of course, is budget. While some customers feel they need to make hard choices due to budget, that’s not necessarily required. In fact, you can still accomplish a high-end look for your master bath using IKEA cabinetry whether your budget is big or small.

Modern bathroom

And if you feel limited or overwhelmed by the size of your master bath layout, the same principle holds true. Take a look here to see how you can easily have a luxurious, spa-like retreat or a large, classic, traditional space.

Lastly, you want to be keenly aware of how you intend to use the space. These are the important questions to ask yourself. We call this a checklist. Do you need plenty of cabinetry storage? Will there be a his-and-hers vanity area? These are the types of things that are crucial for under-standing how your space will work. Once you know that, you’ll know what your bathroom system needs to do for you.

IKEA’s Bathroom System

Understanding the pros of some of IKEA’s bathroom systems options will definitely ease your decision making. Specifically, let’s look at IKEA’s GODMORGON, HEMNES, and LILLÅNGEN bathroom systems.

Let’s discuss the pros of IKEA’s GODMORGON bath series first. The drawers are protected from water damage; sink vanities and high cabinets are wall mounted and the drawers have a pull-out stop, so you can open them all the way without worrying that the drawer will fall out. Plus the drawers and doors are soft-close. In addition the mirror cabinets feature integrated lighting; and there’s full use of the inside cabinet.

GODMORGON bath

The HEMNES bathroom system is designed with classic Scandinavian expression. Included is a mirror cabinet with two doors; a high cabinet with glass door, an open sink cabinet with one drawer; a storage bench with towel rail and four hooks, and a sink cabinet with two drawers.

Lastly, the IKEA LILLANGEN sink is a favorite among our designers. It’s perfect for smaller bathrooms because it’s flexible, affordable and saves space (the widest unit is 31-½” but it’s only 16″ deep). Multiple organizers and accessories make this cabinet cost effective as well. Most importantly, the LILLANGEN sink base can be customized with mix-and-match parts from IKEA, using a closed cabinet frame or combining this with open units. LILLANGEN comes in three different widths.

Using IKEA SEKTION in Your Master Bath

One IKEA GODMORGON vanity hack you can use is to switch out your cabinetry to SEKTION instead. IKEA SEKTION cabinets are great for bathroom storage and organization.

For instance, check out this IKD master bath design that features IKEA SEKTION cabinetry paired with BODBYN doors. Or, you can use MAXIMERA drawers with glass sides for example, or shelves, wire baskets. MAXIMERA drawers pull all the way out, have a soft-close feature, have adjustable dividers and inner drawer sizes of low, medium and high — perfect for storing towels or other bathroom accessories.

SEKTION bath

A perfect example of the potential is this recent IKEA master bath that features IKEA SEKTION cabinetry framework with IKEA’s GODMORGON sink cabinet with two drawers in white stained Oak Effect. This created a sleek vanity area for added linen storage and was combined with an IKEA TORNVIKEN sink and IKEA TOLKEN countertop to great effect. To that end, base cabinets with drawers are perfect for spacious bathrooms as well and will provide tons of organization solutions.

Lastly, you can use IKEA SEKTION interior organization for linen storage, such as with high cabinets, (think gray IKEA BODBYN cabinetry). And if you have more modern sensibilities, you can combine the IKEA GODMORGON sink cabinet and IKEA ODENSVIK ceramic sink as a minimalist style that still provides plenty of storage. With that in mind, GODMORGON internal compartments for drawers keep smaller items individually stored. Plus consider the IKEA KOMPLEMENT Series of baskets to store towels near the shower or bath as well.

As you can see, these are just some of the options available for your IKEA master bath.

Remember, you don’t have to sacrifice organization for inspiration. Our team at IKD knows this and we’ll use IKEA cabinetry to get you both. So let’s get started!
